Unicaja Malaga guard Jaime Fernandez will undergo surgery for the Achilles tendon injury he has suffered on both his feet, the Spanish club announced. Fernandez will be operated next week in Madrid.
Fernandez is thus essentially ruled out from any tournament that may be held in EuroCup or the Spanish ACB League for the completion of the 2019-2020 season. Malaga has been qualified for the EuroCup playoffs and is eligible to participate in ACB’s planned 12-team tournament.
In the 2019-2020 EuroCup, Fernandez averaged 9.1 points and 4.6 assists in 20:15 minutes before the season’s suspension. He had 10,3 points, 4.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 21:30 minutes in Liga Endesa.
