Per EuroCup: “It’s official: the 2020-21 7DAYS EuroCup season is underway! As in previous seasons, 24 teams from 15 countries have started the race to become the last one standing on the podium, lifting the EuroCup trophy. Right now, all of them are at the starting line of a new season which promises to be exciting and more competitive than ever.

Following the completion of the EuroCup Draw on Friday in Barcelona, Spain, all of them know who their first opponents will be in Regular Season action, as well as the whole path to the title, as the Top 16 and the playoffs don’t require further draws. At the end of the season, the EuroCup champion will qualify to play in the 2021-22 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, and the runner-up will also go through if both teams that reached the previous EuroCup Finals, Valencia Basket and ALBA Berlin, don’t finish the 2021-EuroLeague in playoffs territory.

The teams have been divided into four groups of six teams, which will see them play 10 regular season games – five at home and five on the road – from September 30 to December 16. The top four teams from each regular season group will advance to the Top 16, four new groups of six games each beginning play on December 30, 2020 and finishing on February 3, 2021. Three best-of-three game playoffs phases follow: quarterfinals from March 2 to 10; semifinals from March 16 to 24; and the finals from April 6 to 14. The end dates of each series assume that third games will be necessary.

The 2020-21 7DAYS EuroCup may be the strongest in competition history. Seven of the teams that made it to the EuroCup playoffs last season, right before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation, are back to the competition: Partizan NIS Belgrade, Unicaja Malaga, AS Monaco, Promitheas Patras, Segafredo Virtus Bologna, Umana Reyer Venice, and UNICS Kazan. The competition features four former champions (Unicaja, UNICS, Joventut Badalona and Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar), as well as three former Turkish Airlines EuroLeague winners (Virtus, Partizan and Joventut). There are three newcomers (Bahcesehir College Istanbul, Frutti Extra Bursaspor and JL Bourg) and four national cup winners (Buducnost VOLI Podgorica, Partizan, Telenet Giants Antwerp and Umana Reyer Venice).

It all adds up to an ambitious group of teams, all seeking a double reward: the 2020-21 7DAYS EuroCup title and a spot in the 2021-22 EuroLeague!”
