You have to expect anything when teams from the same country square off in continental competitions and that was the case in the first round in Group E of the EuroCup Top16. In Spain, Joventut Badalona prevailed over Unicaja Malaga on the road, and in France also Monaco despite being the guests beat Nanterre 92 with ease.

The final score was 95-86 in Malaga on a close game decided in the last quarter. Vladimir Brodziansky with 21 points was the top scorer of the winning side and with a big three made the score 86-81 with less than three minutes left.

Veteran center Deon Thompson (photo) with 23 points tried his best for Unicaja but couldn’t save the day.

On the contrary, Monaco destroyed Nanterre as the final 93-65 suggests. The team of coach Zvezdan Mitrovic was firing at all cylinders with Marcos Knight (20 p.) and Rob Grey (19 p.) leading the charge.

Brian Conklin with 14 points was the top scorer of the home side.
