UNICS Kazan fought for its life in the second game of the 7DAYS EuroCup semifinals and handed Virtus Bologna its first defeat of the season after 19 games. The Russian team prevailed over with an 85-81 win on Friday to even the series and take it to Game 3 (April 14).

Marco Belinelli tried to keep Virtus on track, however, his season-high 33-point performance wasn’t enough at the end of the day to keep his team undefeated in Kazan, even though the Italian side recovered from a 17-point deficit in the second half.

UNICS’ perfect defense on Belinelli with 5.1 seconds left in the game forced the Italian star to a crucial turnover with Virtus down by two points, while Jamar Smith earned a foul to win the game for the hosts with a pair of free throws.

Isaiah Canaan led the way for the Russian side with 19 points, 6 rebounds, Jordan Theodore followed with 15 points and 6 assists and Okaro White tapped 12 points and 9 rebounds for Dimitris Priftis’ squad.

Milos Teodosic added up 11 points for Bologna and Vince Hunter had 10 points.
