Andorra hands Partizan first season loss

After 10 straight wins, Partizan Belgrade fell to Andorra in Spain.

Morabanc Andorra became the first team in all competitions to beat Partizan Belgrade in 2021-22 by taking a 61 – 60 win at home for Round 4 of the EuroCup regular season. This result marked snapped Partizan’s 10-game winning streak after seven victories in ABA League and three in EuroCup.

Victor Arteaga scored 15 points for Andorra while former Partizan guard Codi Miller-McIntyre registered 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Punter scored 13 points (3-13 shots) and LeDay posted 12 points and 10 boards.

The game was tight in the final minutes after Partizan erased 10-point deficit at the beginning of the third period to go up 57 – 58 with 3:24 to play. Andorra took the advantage and Clevin Hannah handed his team a 61 – 58 lead with a minute to play.

Two free throws by Punter put Partizan at a one-point distance and then his team sent David Jelinek to the line. He went 0-2 and in the three seconds that were left, Partizan didn’t find anything better than a 3-point attempt from half-court that was off.

Both teams had some notable ups and downs before the close last stretch. Partizan dominated the second period 8 – 20 to go up 24 – 32 at halftime only for Andorra to respond with eight unanswered points in the third quarter and a 24 – 8 partial score that put them ahead 48 – 38.  The Serbian team came back but their opponents had the final say.

There’s a new Group A leader after Partizan’s defeat. Lokomotiv Kuban crushed Slask Wroclaw 98 – 68 on the road and is now the only undefeated team in the group. Errick McCollum produced 22 points to pace the Russian team.

Wednesday’s games in Round 4 for Group A began with a historic result. Hamburg Towers grabbed their first win ever in the competition after beating Lietkabelis 100 – 96 in Lithuania behind 20 points and seven rebounds by Lukas Meisner. Gediminas Orelik’s 31 points weren’t enough for Lietkabelis.

Joel Parra had 18 points and eight rebounds as Joventut Badalona downed Turk Telekom 76 – 77 to bounce back to wins.
