Victor Sanders was released from his contract with Umana Reyer Venezia after reckless driving on Autostrada A27, the team announced Thursday.

Sanders, 27, entered the motorway from Venice and drove on the opposite lane for about 40 kilometers before he was stopped by traffic police very early this morning, as reported by multiple Italian outlets. Consequently, his driver’s license was suspended.

He alarmed other drivers. Fortunately, his careless conduct following the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season Round 17 home win versus Promitheas did not result in any injuries. He scored 12 points helping Venezia improve to 8-9 in Group I with one game left on the schedule before the start of the single-game elimination postseason stage.

Venezia condemning his actions decided to part ways with the former Idaho standout.

The American guard was moving through his second straight campaign in Europe. After playing for Dolomiti Energia Trento in 2020-21, he switched to the fellow Italian club and averaged 7.4 points, 1.6 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 0.2 blocks per contest over 16 appearances this season. At the domestic level, he generated 8.1 points, 1.8 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 0.7 steals, and 0.2 blocks per LBA Serie A game for the team coached by Walter De Raffaele currently carrying an 11-12 record to barely fit in the top eight seeds awarding an Italian League Playoffs berth.

Prior to shifting to Italy, Sanders spent a couple of seasons as a member of Belgium’s Telenet Giants Antwerp racking up 33 games played in the Basketball Champions League.
