Cavs pick Khalifa Diop extends contract with Gran Canaria until 2025

EuroCup Rising Star and Cleveland Cavaliers stashed big man Khalifa Diop signed an extension with Gran Canaria.

Gran Canaria announced that center Khalifa Diop extended his contract through 2025. The Senegalese center’s previous deal with the club was set to expire in 2024.

Diop. 20, was named Rising Star of the 2021-22 EuroCup. The Cleveland Cavaliers selected him with the 39th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft with the goal of stashing him at least for the upcoming season.

Per EuroCup:

Gran Canaria has reached an agreement with Khalifa Diop to extend the 7DAYS EuroCup Rising Star’s contract until 2025, the club announced on Saturday. Diop (2.08 meters, 20 years old) made an impressive impact for Gran Canaria in the EuroCup last season, posting averages of 5.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 20 games.

 Diop has played three seasons with Granca, one of which was in the EuroLeague in 2018-19. He joined the club in 2017 directly from his native Senegal, and he was also a member of the junior team that won the 2019 L’Hospitalet tournament, where he was named MVP. Diop’s performances with Granca caught the eye of Cleveland, which selected him with the 39th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He has represented Senegal’s national team in both the youth and senior categories.
