A few months after adding Europe and specifically Greece to his professional career, Joe Young was released by Promitheas.

On the heels of the report of Eurohoops regarding the top scorer of the 7DAYS EuroCup, the team based in Patras officially parted ways with Young Wednesday.

On a later status update (5/1), the next step will be GeVi Napoli in Italy’s LBA Serie A and double his salary compared to Promitheas, per Eurohoops sources.

Young, 30, averaged a league-high 23.4 points to go along with 3.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.9 steals per contest over seven EuroCup appearances. His efforts pushed Promitheas to a 5-4 start in Group B of the Regular Season. At the domestic level, he logged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game over eight appearances between Greece’s Basket League and Supercup.

Coming out of Oregon, Young was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 43rd pick in the 2015 NBA draft. He went on to play in 132 games in the next three seasons. Following three seasons of displaying his scoring talents in China’s CBA, he resurfaced in the G League playing for Birmingham Squadron last season and from there landed in Patras at the top of the 2022-23 season.

Wright State product Joe Thomasson is a candidate to replace Young on the squad of the team coached by Giannis Christopoulos, as reported by Eurohoops. Recently leaving Zenit, he became a free agent.

Looking to improve a poor record of 4-6 in the top-flight division of Greece, Promitheas is set to welcome Aris in Patras Saturday, before resuming the EuroCup campaign with a home game opposite Dolomiti Energia Trento Wednesday.
