A newcomer confirmed for Veolia Towers Hamburg.

Swiss small forward Anthony Polite penned a contract for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, the team announced Saturday. Former team LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne additionally confirmed the end of his brief stint at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague outfit.

Polite, 25, went undrafted after his NCAA spell at Florida State and signed with ASVEL last July. Appearing in eight EuroLeague games, including one start, he averaged 1.1 points and 1.9 rebounds over 7:57 per contest. Struggling to earn playing time, he was also held to 2.5 points and 1.2 rebounds per game logging six appearances in France’s Betclic Elite LNB Pro A.

The international player with Switzerland will be looking to bounce back switching to the 7DAYS EuroCup and Germany’s easyCredit BBL.

“Anthony is a young, talented player, unable to firmly establish himself at the highest level of European basketball. As a rookie, he got the chance to sign with a EuroLeague team. A big step for him at this stage of his career,” explained Hamburg’s head coach Benka Barloschky, “We now want to help him adjust in Europe and move up to the highest level from here. We see a lot of potential in him that we want to develop here with us.”

The German club currently ranks eighth in Group B of the EuroCup Regular Season behind a 3-7 W-L tally. Besides aiming to clinch a berth in the next round of the continental competition, the 6-8 domestic run is one game shy of the BBL Playoffs zone.
