Newly established Maxima Roma has been putting the finishing touches on an ambitious new roster ahead of its debut season, including competition in Group B of the 2026–27 BKT EuroCup Regular Season. In a weekend of announcements, the organization confirmed three additions designed to give head coach Matteo Cotelli an intense blend of physical dominance, continental experience, and versatile depth in the paint and on the perimeter.
Highlighting this drive was the addition of American center Vernon Carey Jr., who officially joined the squad on Saturday with an elite pedigree. The 32nd pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm, and former Duke standout has already proven his capabilities overseas after a stellar stint with Pinar Karsiyaka, where he became the youngest player to win the Basketball Champions League Most Valuable Player of the Month award.
His imposing physique and refined low-post scoring will anchor Rome’s paint alongside Sunday’s arrivals, Gora Camara and Federico Bonacini. Camara, a Senegalese-Italian big and Virtus Bologna youth product, adds further athletic rim protection and high-efficiency inside production following a powerful campaign with RBR in the second-tier division of Italy. Meanwhile, the adaptable winger Bonacini, who arrives from Gemini Mestre, injects defensive grit and multi-positional flexibility to the backcourt.
These new acquisitions join a solid core that features Mirza Alibegovic, Miro Bilan, John Brown III, Aaron Holiday, Brynton Lemar, Xavier Moon, Matt Ryan, Giovanni Veronesi, and Carl Wheatle, with Davide Moretti and Marko Milovanovic entering for training camp.
