The Slovenian international forward signed this year with San Pablo Burgos—an opponent of Aris in the EuroCup and a team he had previously played for during the 2018-19 season—but is expected to miss several months of action after suffering a meniscus tear that requires surgery.
If only it were the first time. Unfortunately, that is not the case for Čančar.
Since October 2023—when he was still playing for the Nuggets—up to the present day, the 29-year-old, 2.03m Slovenian forward has played in just 21 games across all competitions.
Čančar returned to Europe last year, signing with Armani Milan after six years in Denver, but suffered a knee injury before the season had barely begun—much like now—and appeared in only two games for the Italian champions. He has also suffered a leg and wrist fracture in 2022, an ACL tear in 2023, and other injuries, primarily to the knee.
Čančar is reminiscent of another extremely unlucky player, Keenan Evans, who has suffered three serious injuries over the past three years and is currently attempting a comeback with the London Lions, on loan from Žalgiris Kaunas.
