The man who led Trento to the Eurocup semifinals in the team’s first venture in international competitions, was rightfully chosen as the Coach of the Year! Maurizio Buscaglia receives a well deserved award for a team accomplishment which was as impressive as it was rare, especially considering where Trento has been some years go.
If it wasn’t enough for Dolomiti Energia Trento to finish first at their regular season and Last 32 Groups, they proceeded to advance in the eighth-finals after eliminating Zaragoza. But the magical journey did not stop there, Their next opponent was no other than powerful Olimpia Armani Milano, in an all-Italian clash. Trento was absolutely dominant in the series winning in both games with an emphatic manner, to make it to the semifinals!
While they defeated Strasbourg in France, the Italians lost the re-match at home, and were eliminated with difference of two points in the aggregate score. Still, what Trento achieved under the guidance of coach Buscaglia was stunning. Moreover Trento played beautiful, team-oriented modern basketball which clearly had the coach’s signature all over it.
Remember that Trento played in Italy’s third division four years ago and advanced in the Lega A just in 2014! Throughout this journey the common factor was no other than Maurizio Buscaglia and this award now comes as a reward, of sorts, for all that he has done for the club.
