The “Spanish showdown” between Bilbao and Fuenlabrada went to the team that simply craved for a victory a lot more than the other. Basques would be in trouble with a loss but beat their opponents 97 – 83, improving their record to 3 – 4.
Bilbao is now tied with Lietuvos Rytas and Fuenlabrada at the standings and the next week will decide which two of those teams will advance to the Top 16.
On to the game, the hosts could simply not be denied, particularly on the offensive end finishing the first half leading 45 – 37 and then expanding their advantage with no problem. No matter what Fuenlabrada could do, it couldn’t put out the fire of its opponents, especially from Ivan Buva (16 points, 6 rebounds), Micheal Eric (16 points, 10 rebounds), Scott Bamforth (13 points) and Alex Mumbru (13 points, 6 assists).
For the losing side, Alex Llorca had 16 points and Rolands Smits with Pako Cruz 14 apiece.
