Sports can sometimes save lives and this is one of those cases.

There have been a lot of stories since the very first days of basketball about the motivation it gives, the relationships it creates, the lives it changes and saves.

Some of them bring excitement never felt before while others force the tears out. This is one of them.

A Lokomotiv Kuban fan lost memory of everything she ever knew due to a stroke. How she recovered? By watching the game of her favorite club, Lokomotiv Kuban. To her, ‘Basketball is life’.

The fan shared her story in a letter sent to the club

Gratitude to the Game

My story

My birthday was due tomorrow and I was going to see the Loko’s game against Turkish Darussafaka. But today I’ve got a blood-stroke. Soon I forgot every word that I ever knew. I forgot my name, my kids’ names, item names and all prayers. But three days after that oblivion one of the basketball games, emerged in my memory. I couldn’t remember details, but it seems absolutely clear that I’m sitting on my personal seat at the tribune. Suddenly I saw a player who drove the ball on the near side of the court. I recognized him as Collins. Then I saw Obradovic.

I started to repeat their names as mad. Again and again. Until the next day when I started to remember all the other words. Gradually, I remembered all the players. And then I realized that I will be healthy.

I will always be thankful to all the trainers and players of Loko in season 17-18. You all helped me get well. And I will always remember you wherever you’ll play. I sincerely wish to you a good health, good luck in game and life, and a very long successful sports career.

Sincerely yours, Tatiana V.
