Thanks to an 8-0 run, Valencia was leading by six (66-60) with 30 seconds left and eventually got the 69-64 win over UNICS Kazan in Game 1 of the 7DAYS EuroCup semifinals which proved to be a dog fight.

It was a close and sometimes ugly contest from wire to wire, with UNICS having a small lead at halftime (30-28) and also at the end of the third period (48-44). Mike Tobey and Fernando San Emeterio scored 14 points each. Matt Thomas added 13 points, however, Will Thomas made some of the biggest plays of the game, scoring four points and dishing one assist in the last two minutes.

Errick McCollum scored 16 points for the guests, but the problem for Unics was that on crunch time they couldn’t keep up with the hosts missing three straight shots and committing one turnover during a crucial one minute stretch.
