The injury of Olympiacos captain Vassilis Spanoulis will force him to have ankle surgery, as the club officially announced.

To be exact, Spanoulis suffered a tendon rupture in the right ankle in the game against Zalgiris Kaunas, and there’s no alternative other than surgery for the 37-year-old player.

After this turn of events, Spanoulis is expected to miss the rest of the season. While there’s no timetable for his possible return yet, the rehabilitation in similar cases is expected to last four to five months.

Spanoulis suffered a very similar injury last season on the same ankle. It was also the end for him in the 2018-19 season.

Meanwhile, Olympiacos is already finalizing a deal with Shaquielle McKissic. However, with Spanoulis out of action, the Reds are already in the market to add one more player in their roster.

Spanoulis is currently the All-Time top scorer of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with 4239 career points and also the All-Time top passer with 1516 assists.
