CSKA Moscow team doctor Roman Abzhelilov passed away at 44 due to complications caused by coronavirus infection, the Russian club announced. He was survived by his wife and his two children.

Abzhelilov, a beloved figure in the CSKA Moscow organization, succumbed after a long fight with the illness. He had been under intensive care since May 1.

Before joining CSKA in 2014, Abzhelilov was the doctor of Khimki Moscow. He also served as a doctor on the Russian national team.

CSKA Moscow issued the following statement:

Today, our good and always sympathetic friend, brilliant doctor and excellent family man Roman Abzhelilov has left us. His body fought desperately but failed to cope with health complications caused by the coronavirus infection.

Roma was 44 years old. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Rest in peace, friend. The deepest condolences to his family and friends from all the Army Men and everyone who was helped by Roman to overcome health problems… He was a wonderful person and a universal favorite… This is a big loss for all of us…
