Baskonia has opened a disciplinary proceeding against guard Semaj Christon. The player returned to the USA after being advised by the club to not leave Spain when the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic and he hasn’t rejoined the team now that practices have resumed.

“The president [Donald Trump] called for all Americans to return to their country. He [Semaj Christon] had some difficult family situations and panicked a bit,” Baskonia general manager Felix Fernandez said in a teleconference. “We had given a recommendation that everyone stays here and now we will see how the situation is resolved. We speak to him very often. He has an option to renew his contract but you have to see what happens with the possibility of flying from there and having to undergo a quarantine after that.”

Zoran Dragic had also left for Slovenia but he returned in time to enter practices together with the rest of his squad. Hence, no disciplinary proceeding was opened.  “He stayed in Vitoria and went to Slovenia with the knowledge of the club,” Fernandez said.

Baskonia has begun practices again in waiting to see if the season in both EuroLeague and the Spanish ACB League will resume.
