Anthony Gill, who intends to leave Khimki Moscow Region, might on his way to join Olympiacos and play again under Georgios Bartzokas, this time in Greece. Agent, Stanislav Ryzhov via Izvestia discussed the potential move, and the strong relationship built between Bartzokas and Gill.

“Back in 2017, Bartzokas met Gill in the NBA Summer League and helped him reach a new level at Khimki,” the Greek head coach’s agent recalled, “Therefore, I am not surprised that Olympiacos is interested in this player.”

A peculiar summer market coming off the coronavirus pandemic forces teams including the Reds to push back plans for the 2020-21 season. It still way early for concrete groundwork but Gill is among the players considered by the Greek powerhouse.

“Ahead of this summer, it would not be right for me to further evaluate the interest,” added Ryzhov, “However, it is obvious that Gill’s playing time decreased under Kurtinaitis. He is no longer the second most important player on the team. This is not strange, as every coach follows his own path.”

The 27-year-old American joined Khimki in 2017 following his Summer League stint with the Charlotte Hornets. Up to January 2019 and Bartzokas’ exit, he established himself as Turkish Airlines EuroLeague star under the guidance of the Greek head coach.

His third run in Europe’s premier club competition currently halted due to the 2019-20 season remaining suspended featured him putting up 8.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game over 25 appearances averaging 18.4 minutes per contest. Rimas Kurtinaitis’ side sits 7th on the table thanks to 13-15 record.

As for the canceled VTB United League season, Gill helped Khimki to an 18-1 tally with 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per match.
