Sasa Obradovic assumed head coaching responsibilities at Crvena Zvezda mts, the Serbian powerhouse announced via a press conference on Wednesday. He inked a 2+1 contract, as noted during his presentation.

“I consider myself a part of this club, a part of Crvena Zvezda history,” said the new head coach, “I believe that all these years, as a coach, as a player and as a person, I deserved to become the head coach of Crvena Zvezda. I am aware of the expectations, but not afraid. I am mentally and physically ready to meet the goals set.”

The 51-year-old Serbian previously confirmed his new job after completing his departure from AS Monaco. In addition, Red Star already parted ways with the previous head coach, Dragan Sakota.

Back in 1987, Obradovic launched his playing years earning a spot in the Crvena Zvezda squad. Later in his successful career returned for two more stints. His first coaching job at the Belgrade club marks his return after a couple of decades.

The 2017-18 7DAYS EuroCup Coach of the Year will also make his way back to Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for the first time since his 2014-15 run as the ALBA Berlin boss. Other head coaching experiences apart from ALBA and Monaco include Lokomotiv Kuban, Donetsk, Turow, Kyiv, and Koln.

He will also guide the Red-Whites in the ABA League and Serbian domestic competitions.

“We will play aggressive, modern basketball at both ends of the court,” noted Obradovic referring to his plans, “Some say that I am more focused on defense, which is far from the truth. Modern basketball requires strong effort in both ends. We must create the best possible team to be competitive through our tough schedule in EuroLeague. ABA, and Serbian competitions.”
