Igor Kokoskov is very close to taking over the Fenerbahce head coaching job

Fenerbahce BEKO is very close – only details remaining – to finalizing a three-year guaranteed deal with Igor Kokoskov, according to Eurohoops sources.

Kokoskov has been working as the assistant coach in the Sacramento Kings while he also fairly recently took over the leadership of the Serbian national team. Prior to the Kings, Kokoskov had become the first European-born head coach in the NBA, at the helm of the Phoenix Suns.

He also served as the head coach of the Slovenian national team in the 2017 EuroBasket, leading them to the first-ever gold medal title in the country’s history. He has been also the head coach of the Georgian national team.

Kokoskov was also an assistant in Detroit (with which he won the championship in 2004) as well as with the L.A. Clippers, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, Suns, and the Utah Jazz.

While his name was mentioned as a potential target of many European teams, Fenerbahce is the only club that managed to lure him away from the NBA.
