EuroLeague and EuroCup veteran forward Lior Eliyahu is retiring from basketball. Per a report by “Israel Hayom“, the Israeli player will soon give a press conference in which he will address the reasons behind his decision.

Eliyahu, who will become 35 years old on September 9, spent most of his career playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv (2006-2009 and 2010-2013) and Hapoel Jerusalem (2013-2019), the two major Israeli powerhouses. He captained both teams.

During the 2009-2010 season, Eliyahu was a player of Baskonia, in his only stint outside his native Israel. In 2019 he joined Maccabi Ashdod, the last station of his career.

Throughout a professional career that began in 2003, Eliyahu won 16 titles, including the Israeli League and Cup, the Spanish ACB League and the ABA League, earning numerous individual distinctions. In 2012 and 2015, he was named MVP of the Israeli League.

Eliyahu was also a longtime player of the Israeli national team with which he played in six EuroBasket tournaments, from 2007 through 2017.
