CSKA Moscow began its preseason games with a 102 – 67 win over fellow Russian team Runa Basket. The 2019 EuroLeague champions were coached by assistant Dimitris Pistiolis since head coach Dimitris Itoudis has yet to join the team after his recovery from coronavirus.

Newcomer Nikola Milutinov scored 20 points while Mike James had 17 points. Tornike Shengelia, also a new acquisition for CSKA, had 14 points and Will Clyburn posted nine points and six rebounds in his return after a season-ending injury.

For Runa,  Alexey Kurtsevich dropped 13 points.

Before the game, a minute of silence was held in memory of CSKA team doctor Roman Abzhelilov who died of complications related to coronavirus in May.
