Zeljko Obradovic, the most successful coach in the history of European basketball, said that he’s been asking his longtime former assistant and current CSKA Moscow head coach Dimitris Itoudis for advice.

“We call each other almost every day, and now it is not he who asks me for advice, but I – from him,” Obradovic said to Sports.ru, in light of Itoudis’ 50th birthday on Tuesday (8/9). It doesn’t matter that he is younger, I trust his opinion. Every time we see each other, we talk about basketball, for us, this is a completely normal thing.”

Itoudis was Obradovic’s assistant on Panathinaikos from 1999 to 2012. During that period, the Greek club won five EuroLeague championships and numerous domestic titles.

After their departure from Panathinaikos in 2012, Itoudis had a stint in Banvit and then became the head coach of CSKA Moscow in 2014. He led the Russian team to win the 2016 and 2019 EuroLeague, along with five VTB League titles.

“I think he is a very honest and sincere person. This is his main quality,” Obradovic said.

CSKA Moscow prepared a video with wishes for the Greek coach that includes some of the biggest names in European basketball, like Dusan Ivkovic, Sarunas Jasikevicius, Kyle Hines, EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu and more…
