Olympiacos Piraeus signed forward Kostas Papanikolaou to a three-year extension, the club announced. Papanikolaou’s current contract with the Greek club was set to expire in 2021.

Papanikolaou has spent the larger part of his professional career with Olympiacos. He first joined the team in 2009 and was a pivotal member of the squads that won the back-to-back EuroLeague championships of 2012 and 2013, when he was also named EuroLeague Rising Star. He then moved to Barcelona and also had an NBA stint with the Houston Rockets and the Denver Nuggets.

In 2016, Papanikolaou returned to Olympiacos and has remained with the team ever since. The 30-year-old Greek player averaged 8.5 points, 3.6 assists, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals in the 2019-2020 EuroLeague before the season’s cancelation.

As a player of Olympiacos, Papanikolaou has also won the Greek League in 2012 and 2016, along with the Greek Cup of 2010.
