Marc Gasol has seen his name being the subject of various rumors and reports that are sending him back to his native Spain and, more specifically, EuroLeague powerhouse Barcelona. Most recently and while discussing his own future, Pau Gasol shut down these rumors, describing them as “fake news.”

At 35 years of age and after battling injuries through 2019-2020, Marc Gasol is set to become a free agent once the offseason begins. According to ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan, the veteran center my indeed abandon any NBA possibilities since he’s thinking of continuing his career back home.

Per ESPN:

Gasol is contemplating a return to Spain, and although a report he already has signed with Barcelona was erroneous, it might turn out to be simply premature. Nurse acknowledges that Gasol, who made $19.69 million this season, might move on. “

McMullan adds that Gasol was so worried about his parents this summer and amid a deep coronavirus crisis in Spain, that he considered not joining the Raptors in the Walt Disney World bubble for the completion of the season.

“He contemplated skipping the bubble altogether because of concerns over his elderly parents, who still live in Spain, which at one juncture was one of the worst hot spots for COVID-19.”

It remains to be seen if that becomes a factor that may weigh into Gasol’s potential decision to return to Spain for the first time since 2008.
