Two Zenit Saint-Petersburg players and three members of the coaching staff contracted coronavirus, the Russian club announced Sunday. Four players and another staff member were found positive earlier this week.

In Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 2 action Friday, the team led by Xavi Pascual upped its record to 2-0 with the “W” against FC Barcelona. Players and coaches were tested following the game producing five additional COVID-19 cases.

The positive coronavirus tests forced the team to suspend practices, as noted in the press release. Players and coaches found positive are quarantined and under medical supervision, while the remaining team members will be tested daily.

Coming up for Zenit is the EuroLeague double-game week featuring contests in Spain versus TD Systems Baskonia Tuesday and Valencia Thursday. The Russian club is considering requesting the upcoming games to be postponed.

According to the competition’s coronavirus protocols, if a team can’t present a squad of at least eight players for coronavirus-related reasons, then it loses the game 0-20.
