FC Barcelona kept TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz at bay and managed to escape with a 72-71 victory on the road in Round 6 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague to extend its streak to four wins, improving to a 5-1 record in the competition’s standings.

Nikola Mirotic led Barcelona’s efforts with 18 points, seven boards and two assists, while Brandon Davies and Alex Abrines stepped up in the fourth period as Barcelona recovered from a double-digit deficit, adding 12 and 10 points each, while Abrines also gave Barcelona the final push to the victory with 52 seconds remaining.

“The game didn’t look good for us at some point. We tried to search for the solutions and, in the end, I think we came here with the right mentality. I think somewhere along the way we lost it and it was one of those games that, somehow, you win and you try to learn from it. You are happy and you just go home. Strange game”, said Sarunas Jasikevicius after the game.

Baskonia returned to its EuroLeague duties starving for a victory, though they couldn’t complete their fourth-period run and now falls to a 2-2 record. The hosts managed to get ahead early in the fourth period with a 15-3 run, though Barcelona’s reaction was more than effective towards the end.

Zoran Dragic led all scorers for Dusko Ivanovic’s squad with 14 points, Achilles Polonara had 14 points and six boards. Youssoupha Fall followed with 11 points and Tonye Jekiri added 10 points.
