AX Armani Exchange Milan turned last week’s victory into a streak after beating Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv 86-85 in overtime on the road in Round 11 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

After an intense battle for 45 minutes, Malcolm Delaney saved the day for the Italian side as he hit net with three seconds remaining in the extra-five minute period.

“It went down to one possession. Kevin Punter made big shots but everybody played with their heart. To come down here and win, after they lost a few games and surely played with a great sense of urgency, it is not easy. We did not catch Maccabi half asleep. They were very very focused, so I am very happy because my players played through mistakes, Malcolm hit a couple of great shots in overtime. Of course, it’s an important win, but it is just one win over 34 games”, in the words of Ettore Messina post-game.

An impressive effort by both teams ended in a thrilling finale, as Milano was paced by Kevin Punter who tapped 18 points. Delaney’s heroic shot added up to 16 points in total, while Shavon Shields dominated the boards and posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kyle Hines and Sergio Rodriguez did their part in the victory, adding 12 and 10 points each for the visitors that improved to a 5-3 record.

On the other hand, Maccabi suffered its third consecutive defeat to fall to a 3-8 record. Scottie Wilbekin stepped up to try and save the day for the hosts with 17 points, as Elijah Bryant also added 17.

Othello Hunter completed the list of scorers in double figures with 14 points and 7 boards, while Dragan Bender added 8 points and 8 boards for Giannis Sfairopoulos’ squad. The Israeli team will hope to bounce back when they host Crvena Zvezda in Round 12.
