Panathinaikos OPAP Athens announced Thursday their new deal with head coach Oded Kattash, who will be at the helm of the bench until 2022. At Panathinaikos, he replaces Georgios Vovoras as head coach; Kostas Charalampidis has served as the Greens’ interim head coach the last two weeks. Lior Lubin leaves his post as head coach of Israeli side Hapoel Galil Gilboa to join Panathinaikos as Kattash’s assistant coach.

Kattash had won the EuroLeague with Panathinaikos as a player in 2000 and was a former teammate of Panathinaikos co-general manager Fragkiskos Alvertis.

This will be his first coaching experience outside Israel after last coaching Hapoel Jerusalem since 2018, leading them to win three Cups as well as establish themselves as a top team in the Basketball Champions League.
