With Zenit St Petersburg doing exceptionally well in its 2020-21 EuroLeague run despite some key absences, General Manager Alexander Tserkovny spoke to sport-express.ru about the upcoming return of point guard Dmitry Khvostov and forward Alex Poythress, as well as the club’s recent signing, Tarik Black.
Khvostov is expected to return early in February, as Tserkovny mentions. “(Khvostov’s) recovery is going according to plan, this week he will start an active phase of training, with the main team. We hope that he will help us in February”.
At the same time, Poythress’ condition will be soon re-evaluated for an estimated time of his return. “His recovery is also going according to plan. Now he is engaged in an individual program under the supervision of a recovery and rehabilitation coach. After two weeks, he will start running exercises, and then we can talk about the specific timing of his final recovery”.
Tserkovny also spoke about the club’s most recent signing, Tarik Black, who is expected to be cleared to join the club in February, when the required paperwork is fulfilled.
“I know about the desire of the fans to see Tarik in the game as soon as possible. He is also looking forward to this moment. We are making every effort to expedite this moment. Unfortunately, what we used to do for several days now takes several weeks. We are talking about the preparation of the necessary documents in the light of the current regulations and restrictions both on the territory of the Russian Federation and on the territory of the United States. We already faced these problems when we brought foreign players in the offseason, so in the case of Black, we were ready for them. Now it has become even more difficult, the process of paperwork has become much more complicated due to the epidemiological situation in the United States. We hope that he will join the team in early February”, said Tserkovny.
