Kostas Papanikolaou will undergo surgery on Friday, three months after being added to Olympiacos’ injury list due to an upper back issue.
Papanikolaou’s attempt to recover without surgery was unsuccessful. He will not be back for the Reds in the remaining Turkish Airlines EuroLeague fixtures of the 2020-21 season and is considered questionable for the Greece national team entering the Olympic Qualifying Tournament at Canada late June.
Prior to been held out of action, he averaged 5.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per EuroLeague contest over 14 appearances this season.
Olympiacos currently ranks 13th in EuroLeague, 4.5 wins outside the playoff spots with six games left.
