Fenerbahce: Team was asked to undergo irregular COVID-19 tests in Moscow

Fenerbahce says that the team was asked to undergo a test that no other team has undergone before this season.

Fenerbahce Beko was informed by CSKA Moscow officials that the team has to undergo COVID-19 tests – something which hasn’t been applied to any other EuroLeague team – upon arrival to Russia for Game 1 (Wednesday 21/4) and 2 (Friday 23/4) of the playoffs, the Turkish club said via a press release.

According to the release, Fenerbahce was told that its members have to undergo tests for coronavirus immediately after the team lands in Moscow and that in case they refuse to take the test, they won’t be able allowed in Russia in case of a Game 5.

Fenerbahce has reported multiple coronavirus cases on team members over the last few days. Overall, five players and three members of the coaching staff have tested positive for COVID-19. The team says that it has provided all necessary documents and test results in accordance with EuroLeague protocols, to be able to travel to Russia.

UPDATE: Fenerbahce wasn’t requested to undergo tests in Moscow, following communication between the Turkish Sports Ministry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their Russian counterparts regarding the issue.
