FC Bayern Munich sporting director Daniele Baiesi has signed a two-year contract extension, the German club announced Thursday.

Baiesi, 46, assumed his current role in June 2017 after three years at Brose Bamberg. The Italian was the Chief of International Scouting of the Detroit Pistons between 2009 and 2014.

“I am honored to have taken the big steps together with this club in recent years and I am really excited about the future,” he said, per the press release, “I would like to thank Herbert Hainer (president) and Marko Pesic (general manager) for their constant trust in my work. I hope I can continue repaying the great respect I receive from everyone in this organization.”

“We are all happy with Daniele continuing our club’s exciting journey with us,” noted GM Marko Pesic, “Together, we laid out the path for our team one year ago. Last but not least, our terrific EuroLeague season has again proved how valuable Daniele is for the team.”

Bayern earned a Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs spot for the first time in team history but was eliminated in five games by AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milano. At the domestic level, the team is heading to the playoffs after finishing fourth in the Regular Season.
