Panathinaikos‘s former coach came for a visit with his current team Iona Gaels and the ‘Greens’ managed to hold them off, getting a 73-66 win in preparation for the upcoming season.
Iona put up a big fight and was even ahead 27-20 in the second quarter and 38-37 at halftime, however, Panathinaikos took over the lead and secured the win, although the difference didn’t cross into double-digits at any point and the Gales had a chance to make an upset.
Coach Pitino thanked his former club for the opportunity and experience. “Thank you Panathinaikos!! You’ve helped the Iona Gaels get better. Much success to a great organization,” he wrote via Twitter.
