Tornike Shengelia was elected as the new president of ELPA, EuroLeague Players’ Association, as announced Wednesday.

Luigi Datome’s term as the President came to an end. His successor was confirmed during the annual General Assembly held in Barcelona on Tuesday.

Jayson Granger, Mateusz Ponitka, and Datome will be joining Kyle Hines, Adam Hanga, and Nikola Kalinic as Vice Presidents.

Per the press release: “ELPA held its annual General Assembly yesterday in Barcelona.

An emotional moment as Luigi Datome’s term as ELPA President came to an end.

“Leading ELPA has been an incredible experience. In only 3 seasons we went from a group of players with a desire to create an association, to a union of players that has achieved the first-ever collective agreement on an international scale. I’m proud of our work and I am thrilled that ELPA now has a new, ideal leader that will take us to the next level.”

Tornike Shengelia was elected as ELPA’s new President.

“I am proud and at the same time humbled, to have the trust of my peers to lead ELPA. I have big shoes to fill. Gigi has been an incredible leader that took the first and most important step. He exposed himself and lead the process of making ELPA what it is today. I look forward to working with the guys on the Players’ Board and I am excited about the duty to achieve more things for this generation of players, and for the next!”

Jayson Granger, Mateusz Ponitka and Luigi Datome are joining Kyle Hines, Adam Hanga and Nikola Kalinic as the board members as Vice Presidents.

A big thank you to Janis Timma and Nihad Djedovic for their dedication and contribution in the last two seasons. We are looking forward to have you both as a part of ELPA family for years to come.”
