Alec Peters hurt his right knee in a recent prep game. He has been sidelined awaiting further evaluation on his injury, Baskonia announced Wednesday.

Peters, 26, picked up the injury in Friday’s friendly game opposite Lenovo Tenerife. He had nine points up to the early exit disrupting preparations for his second campaign at the team based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.

The forward/center from Washington, Illinois, has since been focused on recovering, following the instructions of the Baskonia medical staff.

The former player of Valparaiso was selected with the 54th overall pick of the 2017 NBA draft. He appeared in 20 NBA games as a member of the Phoenix Suns in the 2017-18 season, before opting to move his talents to Europe. Over the last three seasons, he logged 96 games played in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, including a championship run with CSKA Moscow right off the bat. Anadolu Efes and Baskonia followed the next couple of seasons.

Peters registered 11.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per match in his third EuroLeague season but Baskonia narrowly missed the playoffs berth. At the domestic level, he averaged 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per ACB contest for his side eliminated by Valencia in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

Baskonia led by Dusko Ivanovic has picked up Steven Enoch, Landry Nnoko, Jayson Granger, Wade Baldwin IV, Simone Fontecchio, Vanja Marinkovic, and Matt Costello during the offseason. Sander Raieste, Tadas Sedekerskis, Rokas Giedraitis, and Arturs Kurucs are the remaining returning players along with Peters.

The 2021-22 EuroLeague opener against Olympiacos on the road is planned to be held on October 1.
