Former NBA player O.J.Mayo officially moves to EuroLeague and Russian for UNICS Kazan

O.J.Mayo is the latest newcomer in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague as his new club, UNICS Kazan, officially announced. The 33 years old guard will make his European debut in Russia playing also in the VTB United League, as it was previously reported.

Per club announcement: “Basketball club UNICS has signed a one-year contract with 33-year-old American guard O.J.Mayo (196 cm, 95 kg), who has played eight seasons in the National Basketball Association.

In 2008, the University of Southern California graduate was selected 3rd overall in the NBA draft. In his debut 2008-09 season, Mayo was named to the NBA All-Rookie team. For 8 years, O.J. played 573 matches in the strongest league in the world (of which 327 were in the starting lineup) for Memphis, Dallas, and Milwaukee, averaging 13.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1 steal in 30.9 minutes on the floor.

In April 2018, he moved to South America, where he defended the colors of the Puerto Rican club Athleticos de San Herman. For the past two seasons, the UNICS rookie has played for the Liaoning Flying Leopards and twice in a row helped them to reach the final of the Chinese CBA Championship. In 57 CBA games during the 2020-21 season, Mayo’s average stats were 19.4 points (44% of three-pointers), 4.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals in 27.8 minutes of playing time.
