Real Madrid forward Trey Thompkins returned to action Friday (15/1) after eight months in the EuroLeague win of his team over Baskonia.

Thompkins had undergone an arthroscopy on his left knee last May and had a long road of recovering before his comeback. “I felt very good although a little tired because practice is different from games,” the 31-year-old American player said per Real. He played 13 minutes and scored 10 points on 4-7 shots vs. Baskonia. “But I’m happy to be back. The worst feeling is not being able to help the team, not being able to fight with them in every game, traveling with them… and that’s why it’s been very good for me to be able to be in a game with them again.”

On May 4, 2021, Thompkins played in Game 5 of the EuroLeague playoffs against Anadolu Efes, scoring 12 points during 19 minutes in an eliminating loss. He was operated a week later and had to wait eight months until his comeback.

“I never lost confidence in myself,” Thompkins said. “My teammates and the coaching staff helped me and made me stronger by making everything easier for me so that I was only focused on recovering. I will continue to work hard and be at the best level possible to help the team”

Thompkins is one of the veteran players of this Real Madrid squad, having spent seven years with the team. He won the EuroLeague with the Blancos in 2018, apart from multiple domestic trophies.
