One positive test for COVID-19 disrupts AX Armani Exchange Milan

One member of the team group of AX Armani Exchange Milan has tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced Thursday.

Per the press release: “Following the tests administered before leaving for Moscow, a weak positive Covid-19 case came out within the Olimpia Milano’s Team Group. The subject, asymptomatic, was promptly isolated. As per protocol, the rest of the Team Group was tested a second time and all its members came out as negative and were able to leave for the trip to Russia.”

Ettore Messina’s team is set to face CSKA Moscow at Moscow’s Megasport Sport Friday (18:00 CET).

Shavon Shields (wrist) and Konstantinos Mitoglou (foot) will remain on the injury list for at least a few more weeks. All remaining players were considered to be available for the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 22 fixture.

The Italian powerhouse dealt with a spike of COVID-19 cases in late December. It remained idle between December 19 and January 5 in both EuroLeague and Italy’s LBA Serie A. Since returning to action, a 4-1 run across all competitions, including 2-0 in EuroLeague, eased the team through a pleasant recovery.

Olimpia Milano currently stands third in the standings of Europe’s premier club continental competition. The 12-6 record is tied with both Olympiacos and Zenit Saint Petersburg trailing FC Barcelona’s 16-4 and Real Madrid’s 15-3. CSKA follows sixth carrying a 12-7 W-L tally.

At the domestic level, the 13-2 record leads the league, one game in front of Virtus Segafredo Bologna sitting at 12-3.
