With the future full of uncertainty and the Russian clubs finding themselves in a challenging position after the start of the war in Ukraine, UNICS Kazan decided to allow all team members to leave until further notice.

After five hours of waiting for permission to take off due to the sanctions to Russia, the team did travel for the Euroleague game against Olimpia Milano that was supposed to be played on March 1st.

A lot of players will not return to Kazan as they had already packed and have permission from the club.

“We will leave everyone free, at least until the situation settles down. Unfortunately, the situation is complicated. And we, in Kazan, are much farther from Kiev than many other teams,” UNICS GM Claudio Coldbella said, per Repubblica.

The club president also commented on the situation.

“We spent 8 million rubles on a charter, yesterday we were also told that there would be a game. Now we will send all the foreign players and coaches home, everyone is scared,” Evgeny Bogachev said, per TASS. “There is a decision to be made. Let’s hope this doesn’t drag on.”
