FC Barcelona veteran guard Nick Calathes became the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague’s career leader in assists on Thursday in his team’s display against Monaco for Round 28.
Calathes’s second assist of the game, a pass to Sertac Sanli, gave him 1,608 for his career, which was one more than his former teammate, Vassilis Spanoulis, for the top. Calathes finished the game with a total of 6, to go along with 10 points and 6 rebounds to help Barcelona grab the win.
“I have been very blessed to have the coaches I have had and the teammates that I have had, so it goes to them, also, for making the game easy for me on the court. Obviously, it is a great honor and I am happy”, said Calathes after reaching the top of the assist leaders board.
Calathes managed to achieve this feat in 269 games (89 less than second-placed Spanoulis). The Barcelona veteran is also the all-time leader in average assists with 6.0 per game, followed by Real Madrid‘s Thomas Heurtel who has a career average of 5.3.
