CSKA Moscow announced that the club and guard Iffe Lundberg have mutually agreed to part ways. Lundberg was under contract until the end of the 2021-22 season.

Lundberg is the third player to terminate his contract with CSKA following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine after forward Tornike Shengelia and guard Daniel Hackett. The latter two have joined Virtus Bologna.

Per CSKA:

The Danish basketball player joined the red-and-blues during the past season, moving to CSKA from the Zielona Gora as one of the best scorers in the VTB United League. Lundberg played 65 games for the Muscovites with averages of 10.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals, became the champion of Russia and the VTB League, was selected to the Team World for the VTB League All-Star Game.

Andrey Vatutin, PBC CSKA President:

CSKA became Iffe’s first big team, here his best qualities were seen in Europe and around the world. We are grateful for his help in the difficult situation of last season, when he had to quickly adapt to the level of the EuroLeague, and he was one of the key factors on our way to the Final Four. We are pleased that for Iffe, playing for our club was an important step towards reaching his dream, and I wish him to achieve all the goals that he sets for himself.

Iffe Lundberg:

It is very difficult that I have to say that due to the current situation, I had to make a very hard decision, a decision based on the safety of my family’s wellbeing. I’d like to thank the entire CSKA staff, organization and I’d like to personally thank Mr. Andrey Vatutin, miss Natalia Furaeva and most importantly coach Itoudis for taking a chance on me and giving me the opportunity to play in the EuroLeague for the first time. I’ll be forever grateful, thank you. I’d like to shoutout the CSKA fans as well, thank you for embracing me when I got to the club in the middle of the season last year, and thank you for supporting me and my family doing our time here. Thanks for everything.
