Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv adds Josh Nebo to the roster

The latest summer signing completed by busy Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv comes in the form of Josh Nebo. He penned a one-year contract, the team announced Friday.

The financial terms of the contract were not revealed, but Eurohoops reported the Texas A&M product signing an $800K contract.

Per the press release:Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv signed on a one-year contract 6-9 center Josh Nebo, who will bolster the Yellows’ frontline. The 24-years-old American is a familiar face for Israeli basketball fans due to his time at Hapoel Eilat, and last played with Zalgiris in the EuroLeague.

“I’m excited to come back to Israel and join the special tradition of Maccabi”, Josh Nebo told Maccabi’s official website. “I will bring my effort and toughness to Tel Aviv. let’s win!”.

“Josh Nebo is very athletic and a great rebounder”, noted head coach Oded Kattash. “He is a very good defender in one-on-one situations and in team defense. He has prior acquaintance with Israeli basketball and the EuroLeague, which is an important advantage. Josh is a player who makes progress each year and is on the way up”.

Joshua Nebo was born on July 17th, 1997, in Houston, Texas. In his early years he played football, but later focused on basketball and began blossoming in his college years in Pennsylvania after a growth spurt. He went undrafted in 2020 and began his professional career in the holy land.

In July 2020 he was signed by Hapoel Eilat and immediately made his mark. Apart from his 13.6 points per game on 67% shooting from 2-point range, Nebo led the league with 10 rebounds on average. He also was seventh both in blocks (1.1 per game) and efficiency rating (21.8). The center was selected to the All-League second team.

He caught the eyes of the scouts and made the jump to the EuroLeague in 2021 when Zalgiris Kaunas signed him. In his maiden EL season, Nebo started 17 out of 28 games he played and contributed 8.8 points (65% from 2-point range) and 6.2 rebounds (6th-best in the league). He also helped Zalgiris to the local cup with 7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.”
