A couple of weeks following Real Madrid parting ways with Pablo Laso, the Vitoria-Gasteiz-born tactician held a press conference to discuss his current health status, the decision of Los Blancos, and more.

“I am really fine,” he underlined ruling out any lingering issues from the heart attack suffered in the Playoffs of Spain’s Liga Endesa, “My heart functions normally, it is perfect. It was a mini heart attack, as the doctors explained to me.”

Laso, 54, had already declared himself fit to continue coaching, despite Madrid deciding to release him citing ‘medical reasons’.

“If they were so worried about me, I would appreciate them sharing all the medical reports,” he said during the press conference, “I was lucky enough to be treated by capable doctors. I trust their consultations. The doctors treating me have made me certain I am in perfect health. I don’t have those reports of Madrid.”

After being hospitalized for a couple of days and seemingly lacking the clearance to return to his usual role, he did not coach for the remainder of the ACB Playoffs. However, he was in attendance and celebrated alongside his players in the championship-clinching Game 4 of the best-of-five series opposite FC Barcelona.

“I didn’t coach in the ACB Finals because I did not want to,” he clarified regarding his status at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

“I was very excited for the way the season ended and even more for the next season,” he added, “From that point, Madrid released me and I understand. Was it a normal ending? It saddens me that I will not coach Real Madrid next season.”

“I am no longer the head coach of Real Madrid. After eleven years at the club I can only be grateful,” he described his time at the Whites.

“Real Madrid is my home. It’s my life. That’s not going to change,” he added.

Under his guidance, Real Madrid captured two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague titles, six ACB titles, six Copa del Rey titles, six Supercopa titles, and one FIBA Intercontinental Cup.

“I am not actively searching for a new team,” he also said after recently denying any contact with Crvena Zvezda mts, “I am not going to coach just to coach. I must be excited about my projects. I love coaching, it’s my life. I hope I get an opportunity and that opportunity excites me.”
