Mateusz Ponitka has signed with Reggio Emilia, however, his deal includes a EuroLeague-out clause, which is expected to be exercised soon.

The leader of the Polish national team is having a stellar Eurobasket tournament, as his team beat Slovenia in the quarterfinals and outplayed Luka Doncic in this specific game, registering a triple-double on the way.

With this kind of performance, it is evident that EuroLeague clubs will come knocking. Bologna’s local newspaper “Il Resto del Carlino” reported today that Virtus is interested in the player, but also Baskonia has started talks with the side of the player.

The buy-out included in his contract with Reggio Emilia is totally manageable and at this point, it seems that it’s just a matter of time for Ponitka to return to the EuroLeague.

Ponitka was asked about the issue after the semifinal game between Poland and France and he teased the reporters: “I am flying for Bologna on Thursday… Reggio Emilia is just 40 minutes away”
