Still dealing with the Achilles tendon injury in his left leg, Nikola Mirotic has been officially ruled out for the beginning of the new editions of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and Spain’s Liga Endesa.

Mirotic, 31, will miss the start of the 2022-23 season, including the 2022 Super Cup, labeled Supercopa Endesa, FC Barcelona announced Thursday. He has been battling pain in his Achilles tendon over the last few months.

“The FC Barcelona Medical Services are carefully monitoring the Montenegrin’s progress to decide when he will be fit to play again,” concludes the press release updating the status of the experienced power forward and staying shy of producing a timetable on his return to action.

The reigning EuroLeague season MVP is out for approaching fixtures to open the 2022-23 schedule.

The new season tips off at Seville. Barca will collide with fellow Catalonia side Joventut, while Real Madrid will face host Coosur Real Betis in the Supercopa Semifinals Saturday. The winners will battle for the trophy Sunday.

From there to the launch of the ACB Regular Season with a visit to Gran Canaria next Friday and a home game against Cazoo Baskonia next Sunday. The EuroLeague opener follows on 7 October as Olympiacos lines up at Palau Blaugrana.

Prior to arriving in Barcelona in 2019 and assuming a leading role, he spent five seasons in the NBA. From the Chicago Bulls to the New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks, he racked up 359 games played in the NBA. Earlier in his career, he evolved into a promising NBA prospect playing for Real Madrid.
