As happened with Real Madrid, Barcelona also registered record losses last season with a total of €30 million.

According to 2Playbook, a sports business Spanish website, Barcelona lost two more million than expected, failing to cut player salaries, while the losses of Real Madrid were €31.1 million.

Still, it’s an improvement for Barcelona which lost €34.7 million in the 2020-21 season.

Things are expected to improve this season, with Barcelona expecting a record-breaking income of €17 million and losses up to €28 million.

The team was able to secure marquee signings like Tomas Satoransky and Jan Vesely, while also compensating Nick Calathes who had a contract for this season but was released and signed with Fenerbahce.

Barcelona is of course one of the big spenders in European basketball and includes Nikola Mirotic in their roster, by far the highest paid player in Europe currently and one of the top two contracts even given to European basketball, with Josh Childress being the other recipient when he played for Olympiacos more than a decade ago.
