From the 2022 EuroBasket to the Basketball Champions League, Niels Giffey is now on his way back to Germany.

Giffey, 31, is in advanced talks with FC Bayern Munich, as confirmed by Eurohoops sources.

Just over three weeks ago, he penned a short-term contract with UCAM Murcia. Under the deal, he will return to the free-agent pool in 20 days. Bayern can either wait or potentially pay the buyout to immediately bring in the experienced small forward.

Following four years at the University of Connecticut and a couple of NCAA championships, Giffey returned to Germany and Alba Berlin in a stint lasting seven years, highlighted by being crowned champion of the German league twice and two German cup titles. He spent the 2021-22 season at Zalgiris upping his total of games played in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague to 104.

During the summer, he represented Germany in the 2022 EuroBasket averaging 5.9 points, 1.9 rebounds, 0.6 assists, and 0.3 steals per contest en route to capturing a bronze medal. A long-standing member of the German national team, all the way back to the junior level.

Since joining Murcia as a free agent, Giffey produced ten points and four rebounds in his lone appearance helping in the BCL Regular Season Gameday 3 win against SIG Strasbourg.

Tied with Panathinaikos in last place of the EuroLeague standings, Bayern holds a 1-5 record, early in the 2022-23 Regular Season. Domestically, a 4-1 start in the easyCredit BBL trails undefeated Alba Berlin and Telekom Baskets Bonn.

Spanish website Encestando first reported Giffey on the path to joining the Munich outfit.
