There has been a time error regarding the game clock during the last seconds of the ALBA-Barcelona game

On Thursday, Barcelona got the 88-86 win on the road against ALBA Berlin thanks to Nikola Mirotic, who came back to the court after his Achilles tendon injury.

During that game, as EuroLeague admitted in an official statement, there was an error regarding the game clock.

EuroLeague’s full statement on the matter:

“During the game corresponding to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 11 game ALBA Berlin vs. FC Barcelona, played last Thursday, there was a game clock error. With 4.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter, after a missed free throw from FC Barcelona’s Nikola Mirotic, the game clock did not start running until 3 seconds later. After reviewing the Game Clock File, it is demonstrated that the referees failed to start the game clock and did not recognize the error. The timekeeper was also late in starting the game clock.

If at any moment the play would have altered the result of the game, the game clock error would have been reviewed in the Instant Replay System as this is a reviewable play. However, the outcome of the game was not affected”.
